My Experience in Learning English

I started to learn English at the age of 10 for the first time. I attended a small
crammer in my hometown with one of my friends. Although an instructor of the
school, a graduate of
Tokyo University, was very old, he was a trustworthy and
excellent teacher. My attending the crammer continued till my finishing the
senior high school.

After that, I specialized in American and British English in Kita-Kyushu
University, which is now called Kita-Kyushu Municipal Universuty. When I was
in the university, I belonged to the English Speaking Society. Meanwhile, I played
an active part in attending a debate held in
Tokyo.

While I was studying at two other universities, I began to teach English at a
senior high school in
Tokyo as a part timer. Since then, I have been teaching it for
over thirty-five years.

In addition, I have been trying to improve my English abilities even when I am
a teacher. I have studied at some English conversation schools like TBS Britannica
and Lingua Phone; both of which have now disappeared. Actually, I learned English
conversation there from the age of 25 to 32. Afterward, I happened to know the
Asahi
Culture Center
, and I began to attend an English writing class there. My attending
the class has been continuing from 1988 to now. Owing to my long-term attendance,
I have met more than six instructors. One of them, a Japanese female instructor, is
now a professor at
Jochi University, who acquired a Doctorate of Literature at Hawaii
University
later. I am friendly with her even now. That is why ACC is generally
known for its kind and excellent instructors.

Finally, Ifd like to write about my traveling abroad. I have been to the United States
three times; I visited the State of
Washington once and New York City twice.
Additionally, I went to
Vancouver, Victoria, and the Niagara Falls in Canada. Then
I went to
Australia over five times; I have visited Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and
Cairns. The length of my staying in those countries is almost less than ten days each
time. The longest stay among them was in the
USA, which was for one month. I am now
planning that I would like to visit
London this summer.
